PayPal introduces digital payments in India as it enters into competition with Google, Paytm and Hike

PayPal enters into competition with Paytm, Google, Hike and Whatsapp as it adds digital payments to its portfolio in India to leverage the government's 'Digital India' initiative.

Users can now transact with PayPal with BookMyShow, MakeMyTrip, PVR and Yatra. These merchants can now process both local and global payments for PayPal’s 218 customer accounts around the world through a single integration.

PayPal is also offering features like One Touch, Buyer and Seller Protection and Return Shipping on Us for a differentiated payments experience.

Anupam Pahuja, managing director, PayPal India wrote in a blog post: "Developing economies are strongly driven by aspirations India presents opportunity in the digital space. India is transitioning away from our biggest competitor – cash – and our digital platform and technology has immense scope to enable this at scale. For us, the marathon has just begun."

PayPal earlier teamed up with Visa to intensify APAC expansion to foster digital payments. PayPal also opened two Innovation labs in India to nurture fintech startups.
