A used car seller’s attempt to drum up interest in her ageing Honda has exceeded all expectations after a tongue-in-cheek glossy promo video featuring drone footage, graphic overlays and a dramatic coastal road.

Highlighting the vehicles key features such as a boot-mounted mirror, cassette player and onboard coffee pot the short video pulls out all the stops to drum up interest in the $499 vehicle – cat not included.

A suitably bombastic voiceover adds to the theatre with a narrator intoning: "You, you're different. You do things your way. That's what makes you one of a kind." Before concluding: "Luxury is a state of mind".

Professionally shot by Max Lanman the high-profile ad saw bids top $100,000 for ‘Greenie’; a 1996 vintage Honda Accord, before eBay pulled the ad ‘in error’. Bids now stand at a more manageable $530.

Speaking to the BBC about his endeavor Lanman said: “The inspiration to make the ad came while my girlfriend Carrie and I were driving up the coast on Highway 1, heading to Big Sur to go camping.

"It dawned on me that it would be really funny to film a car commercial for a really crappy car against such a gorgeous backdrop.

“It is surreal to think that something that I made with my friends, that two days ago sat on my computer, is now being watched around the world. Thank God for the internet.”

Hondas' former marketing director previously gave The Drum his own thoughts on the birth of viral content.
