M&C Saatchi has poached BMF's Cam Blackley to join as CCO

Blackley joins from creative agency BMF, where he has been executive creative director for four years.

Blackley, who will assume the role in 2018, replaces Andy DiLallo who left the CCO role in November 2016 for TBWA. He will work closely with M&C’s existing creative team lead by Sydney ECD Michael Canning and Melbourne ECD Paul Taylor.

Blackley has over 20 years experience at advertising agencies including AMV/BBDO, Publicis, Droga 5 New York and Droga 5 Sydney and his work has been recognised globally including a D&AD black pencil, three yellow pencils and several Lions, including golds.

M&C Saatchi managing director Russell Hopson, said: “Cam’s work has delivered brilliant, populist, effective ideas that live and thrive in the modern media landscape. This is precisely what we need to fulfil our goal to be Australia’s most influential creative company. We’re ecstatic to have him and can’t wait until he starts.”

Blackley added: “I’m absolutely rapt to lead the creative future of M&C Saatchi. They are one of the most ambitious and creative companies in Australia. Everyone I’ve met to date has impressed me with their vision for the business and love of our industry. And I’m very proud to leave a successful and diverse department at BMF that I’m certain will continue to fire in the future.”

Blackley has been credited with helping to drive BMF’s creative resurgence, with his work on ALDI Australia, TAL Insurance, Football Federation Australia and Sportsbet.

BMF managing director Steve McArdle said in a statement: “Cam is a great guy, has built an outstanding team and delivered a great body of work. He’s helped us achieve ‘Effective Agency of the Year’ and really bring BMF back to its best. Fortunately for us, part of his legacy is a World Class creative department with real strength, depth and diversity of talent at every level. It’s with our thanks and very best wishes that he moves on to pastures new.”

“Over the coming months we’ll be talking to the best creative leaders in the business about the ECD role, including internal and external candidates, and will announce Cam’s successor in due course.”

Blackley is the latest high profile creative move in recent weeks with The Monkeys hiring former Clemenger BBDO Melbourne chief creative officer Ant Keogh while R/GA appointed Host ECD Bob Mackintosh as VP executive creative director for APAC earlier this year.
