NerdWallet trots out thrifty ‘Frank’ to help people budget properly
Money advice and personal finance company NerdWallet has introduced a new campaign with an amiably thrifty character, Frank, to drive home the importance of budgeting to save for the things consumers want most.
Frank takes a bathcation in NerdWallet campaign
The three-part social video campaign begins today (August 17) and will run on social channels, including NerdWallet’s Facebook page. It was developed with social and digital agency Epic Signal.
Frank is a guy who takes ill-fated money-saving advice from friends and family and goes to extremes to save, often to his own detriment. In ‘Tropical Vacation’ we see Frank sipping a tropical drink from a pineapple in snorkel gear. As the camera pans out, we see Frank is in his tub surrounded by fake palm trees after taking a friend’s advice on how to splurge on vacations – take ‘bathcations.’ The voice over states that if he used NerdWallet’s money advice “that actually makes sense,” Frank could learn how to save for a real getaway – “because Frank deserves a real ocean.”
Two other spots find Frank having a nice dinner with himself in the mirror to save money on dating, and taking money hustling advice from his ‘pop-pop’ by rummaging through the couch cushions for spare change.
The point of the campaign is for people to use NerdWallet to make smarter money choices with confidence, because everyone, including Frank, deserves the “real deal” rather than the thrifty alternative.
