Lindsay Pattison answers The Drum's 10 Questions / Maxus

What was your first ever job?

When trying to work out what I wanted to do, I was on reception/runner at Live TV (the home of the weather bunny and err, topless weather…!) Or my first proper job, was a media assistant at Y&R.

Why did you get into media?

It felt exciting, relevant, interesting and full of young fun people.

Who do you find most interesting to follow on social media?

I follow lots of publications or individual journalists around the world so I can then link to longer articles of interest; it’s incredibly useful for my job. I follow a few fashion brands to get inspiration and of course use it to stay in touch with friends I see physically, less often.

Where do you go for most of your mainstream news updates?

In the week, I go to Twitter and then link to other sites like NYT, WSJ, the Times, FT and a whole range of industry titles, and at the weekend I like to buy physical papers-the Times and FT weekend but I dip into others often. I have the BBC app on my phone home page and go into that directly, pretty often. When I travel I always read The Economist and I’ll take any physical local paper to help me prepare.

What was the last book you read?

The Power, by Naomi Alderton. Loved it. Go buy it!

If you could ban one buzzword or piece of jargon what would it be?

Innovation

If you could take one person in the world for a drink to talk about their thoughts and their career who would you choose and why?

Jeremy Bullmore; he is wise, kind, clever and funny. Tremendous company.

What is your favourite social media platform?

I remain media neutral…

Do you ever turn your phone off?

Hmm, well I put it on silent…and don’t take it to the gym. But off-off? Rarely.

What's the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

Step in front of the work.

The 10 Questions With... interview series runs on The Drum every Monday morning.
