Facebook attracts auto industry dollars with Detroit summit

Social network Facebook boosted interest in its ad products from the auto industry by courting them at a Detroit event earlier this week.

Automotive, a lucrative ad bracket, is a potential growth areawhich by all accounts hosts some of the world's biggest brands, is currently underserved by the network. To address this, and roll out auto products to its two billion global users, chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg hosted the Facebook Automotive Summit in Detroit, marking the fifth year of the event, reports Bloomberg.

Sandberg teamed up with GM chief executive officer on stage on Thursday, before touring the factory. She said: “Our industries are converging. Detroit’s writing software and Silicon Valley is building hardware.

“The opportunities to learn from each other have never been better.”

She went on to leverage the engagement the brand can offer car company's although it is worth noting there is currently no ecommerce route to drive sales directly from the site at the moment.
