Twitter is cranking up its live video commitment in a big way after confirming that it will build toward streaming live content 24 hours a day, seven days a week – although it won’t immediately have the capacity to meet these ambitions.

Outlining the scale of the micro-blogging platforms vision for what could be a profitable sideline to BuzzFeed, chief operating officer Anthony Noto revealed the broadcasts would span news, sport and entertainment as part of a new always-on philosophy.

Noto appears to be aiming for quantity over quality however, dismissing the prospect of any big budget Game of Thrones style extravaganza in favour of something more akin to a 24 hour rolling news channel or wall to wall sports station.

Explaining how a typical Twitter user might consume its content Noto said they would: “Focus in on it when you hear something that’s of interest, but then maybe not be 100 percent focused on it when it’s not of interest.”

Twitter recently suffered a setback in its streaming ambitions when it lost out to Amazon in a bidding war to obtain the rights to stream Thursday Night NFL matches, ending the platforms right to screen its most visible video content.

By delivering ads alongside live streaming video Twitter hopes to have finally hit upon a sustainable revenue model which could guarantee its future.
