Smartphone brand Tecno to be launched in India by Chinese makers Transsion

Chinese firm Transsion, known for providing mobile communication products and mobile internet services, is set to launch its smartphone brand Tecno in India after launching its 'itel' brand last year.

'Itel' stood at the second spot in the overall mobile phone market in the last quarter of 2016. Tecno's launch is expected by the end of this month which will further increase competition in India, one of the world's largest mobile phone markets.

Transsion Holdings vice president Arif Chowdhury said: "India is our top priority market across the group and the 58 countries that we operate in, including Middle East and Africa. We will launch four smartphones i3, i3 Pro, i5 and i5 Pro in the Indian market and then, our flagship in May, in the Rs 8,000 15,000 price range."

He further added that the company has potential plans for setting up local manufacturing and a research and development teams in India, to have a more elaborate understanding of the market here.

Transsion is also exploring the potential of launch its third brand, Infinix, in the country.

India's multi billion Indian handset market has already attracted a lot of investment from international smartphone makers like Lenovo, Vivo and Oppo.
