Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, Mark D’Arcy, VP, chief creative officer of the Facebook Creative Shop and Nicola Mendelsohn, Facebook VP of EMEA, will be guest editors of The Drum’s global July issue, to debut at Cannes Lions.

The intersection of creativity and technology will be the issue’s overall theme. Topics covered will include equality, gender parity, brand social responsibility, talent, technology, female leadership and the business at large.

“Sheryl, Mark and I are thrilled to participate as guest editors of The Drum for this year’s global Cannes issue,” said Mendelsohn. “Creativity is a force that has shaped our past and will shape our future, one that is mobile and video-first. Throughout this special edition we will explore the power of creativity to unlock the power of technology, and how both can work together to shape the future of advertising globally.”

Sandberg, D’Arcy and Mendelsohn will focus the content on their main areas of expertise and experience and will include some of the industry’s most prominent and important figures, ranging from senior agency and brand leaders to those making a significant impact within and outside the industry.

“We’re thrilled that Sheryl, Mark and Nicola are serving as guest editors,” said Gordon Young, The Drum’s co-founder and editor in chief. “Drawing from what they’re most passionate about will be valuable currency for our readers and the industry as a whole.”

Previous guest editors have included Cindy Gallop, Maurice Lévy and Trevor Beattie. Last year’s Cannes issue of The Drum was guest edited by IBM’s Watson and included a modern-day interview with David Ogilvy, using the IBM Watson technology. In addition, The Drum's May issue will focus on human tech and is published in partnership with the Duke of York, Prince Andrew.

“Having guest editors is always an exciting proposition,” said Katie McQuater, The Drum’s magazine editor. “What we enjoy most about working with guest editors is that it allows us to stretch ourselves as a team. No one guest editor is the same. They all have a unique point of view and marrying that to our own creates a powerful magazine — and we’re looking forward to working with Facebook’s leadership on this issue.”

Added Doug Zanger, Americas editor for The Drum: “What we value most about the perspective of Sheryl, Mark and Nicola is that, like The Drum, they have compelling points of view and think globally. Considering our own ambition, we couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with.”
