Around three feet of snow is reported to have hit areas of the east coast, bringing traffic to a standstill and causing chaos at airports with thousands of flights being canceled as a result.

To report, the broadcaster has been using drones to provide aerial footage of the storm, while at the time of writing it had run seven Facebook Live updates through the Nightly News team, to an audience of over 976,000 followers, with the broadcaster aiming to utilize its affiliate partnership, its team of correspondents and data from the Weather Channel to inform those affected.

NBC's weatherman Al Roker is also set to broadcast through Facebook Live from Central Park tonight too while offering up a recap of events and a preview of what readers can expect from tonight's Nightly News coverage.
