Lovers of British TV in the United States can now catch up with Easterenders, Emmerdale, Fawlty Towers or a bit of Inspector Morse upon the launch of the BritBox app in the US.

A joint effort between the BBC Worldwide and ITV, the app adopts a Netflix-format streaming service, ad-free with a huge back catalog of programming, around 2,000 hours of programming with more to be added on a daily basis.

The service will cost $6.99 a month, following a free trial, and provides a new revenue source and market for both broadcasters keen to cash in on anglophiles for whom an interest in Downtown Abbey is only the tip of the iceberg.

The service was first teased December 2016, with Ann Sarnoff, president, BBC Worldwide North America, claiming: “This will be a must-have service for lovers of British television.”

Select content will be available on the service a day after it appears on linear BBC and ITV channels.

Below is the service’s launch tweet.
