Twitch, the live-streaming video platform, has introduced its own in-house social stream for gamers in a bid to capture and retain more gaming obsessives.

Pulse will offer members real-time updates on the gaming prowess of their followers with built-in support for services including Vimeo, YouTube, Twitch, Imgur and Gfycat to link video and picture content as well as text.

The move is a bid to bolster engagement amongst the 45m gamers who log-in to Twitch each month to broadcast, watch and chat amongst like-minded people. Pulse will be given a leg-up by front page updates pushed out to followers and friends, while broadcasters will be able to create posts direct from their own dashboard or channel feed.

In a statement, Twitch product marketer Sheila Raju wrote: “Streamers can post and engage with all of their followers and the greater Twitch community right from the Twitch front page. It’s an always-on way to share clips, stream highlights, schedules, photos, and more so followers are more informed, engaged, and connected.”

Twitch has been at the vanguard of growing interest in eSports which are now giving pro sports a run for their money.
