Huawei appoints PHD to China media account

Electronics giant Huawei has appointed PHD to manage its media account in China, following a four-way pitch.

PHD’s Beijing office will be responsible for media strategy and buying for all traditional media channels.

Susana Tsui, CEO, PHD APAC, said, “Our PHD challenger brand personality perfectly fits with Huawei's ambition in and outside of China. We look forward to doing some spectacular work together.”

Huawei, which is headquartered in Shenzhen, is the third bestselling smartphone company behind Apple and Samsung.

Last year it overtook Samsung to become the most profitable Android brand, after Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 recall.

Huawei has made no secret of its global growth ambitions, recently revealing cloud technology, video and 5G were the brand’s key focus areas.

Huawei is the latest win for PHD China, which also picked up the Unilever media account as part of a global appointment.
