Former Procter & Gamble (P&G) marketer Roisin Donnelly has joined the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) in a role that will see her “promote and simplify digital for marketers".

Until eight months ago, Donnelly was P&G’s top marketer in Northern Europe but left after 31 years with the FMCG company to “pursue other interests.”

Since then she has joined Just Eat’s board as a non-executive director and will take on a similar role at the IAB to accelerate advertiser engagement with the industry body.

Donnelly will chair a new IAB UK Advertiser Steering Group, which was formed to ensure advertisers are fully aware of the benefits digital advertising has to offer and stay up to speed on the latest opportunities.

It’s a particularly timely appointment on the back of her former employer's recent stance on the “murky at best, fraudulent at worst” media supply chain.

Last week at an IAB event in Florida, P&G's top marketer Marc Pritchard set out new guidelines for any agency or media owner working with the business, including acceptance of third-party measurement – aimed squarely at the ‘walled gardens’ of Facebook and Google – as well as the adoption of one viewability standard.

Since then, other marketers are set to propose similar ultimatums.

“Primarily my aims as chief executive are to re-assert positivity around digital marketing and to increase our engagement with brands and agencies,” said newly appointed chief executive at the IAB, Jon Mew.

Donnelly’s experience means she “truly understands how to get the most from digital media," he continued.

In addition to her time at P&G, Donnelly is also a former member of Facebook’s client council and currently serves on the board of the ASA where she is chair of the Performance Review Committee.

“Roisin is supremely qualified in this space to help us promote and simplify digital for advertisers," added Mew. "Not only has she managed some of the biggest budgets in marketing, she brings a wealth of experience in delivering world-class campaigns.”

Donnelly said she was “delighted to be joining the IAB team and will help put the consumer and the advertiser at the centre of the IAB agenda.”

“This is an exciting time for the IAB as digital advertising has reached record levels but we face some important challenges,” she said. “I will support Jon and the IAB members to drive the future of the digital industry in the UK.”
