Ed Vaizey has joined The Drum as a guest columnist

Published today (30 January), his first opinion piece covers what the industry needs to do to make sure Brexit works in its favour.

Vaizey will contribute his personal takes on developments in the digital, media and creative sectors, and explore the intersection between the industries and politics. The blog will complement his weekly newsletter on culture, which he has continued despite his self-proclaimed #Vexit from the front bench in July 2016.

The former minister, who has previously written for titles including the Guardian, the Times and the Evening Standard, was replaced by Matt Hancock following the Brexit vote.

Vaizey said of his new column: “The Drum is one of the most important sites for news and comment on the advertising industry and the creative industries in general. The creative industries have never been more successful, but the approach of Brexit injects some unwelcome uncertainty.

"I’m hugely excited to be writing a regular blog for The Drum on the issues where commerce meets politics, and I look forward to engaging with readers."

Stephen Lepitak, editor of The Drum, added: "It's fantastic to have someone of Ed's experience writing for The Drum. He is a rare thing – a politician that truly understands this industry and he will bring us his insights from a unique perspective that won't be found anywhere else."
