The Players’ Tribune, a company which connects athletes with fans, has launched its own podcast network in partnership with DGital Media, an on-demand audio entertainment company.

The podcast network will feature oral histories, athlete-hosted podcasts, a flagship show and other topical series. The podcasts will roll out throughout the year, and will be available on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, TuneIn, iHeart, Google Play, Sirius and more.

The network will debut on 26 January with Giant Steps, an oral history podcast that chronicles the rise of the New York Giants’ first Super Bowl championship in 1986. New York was led by an innovative coaching staff and one of the greatest defenses in NFL history, and the story of the team’s journey to the championship will be told by the players themselves.

The 60-minute episode, narrated by Michael Strahan, features first-person accounts from Carl Banks, Harry Carson, Pepper Johnson, Leonard Marshall, George Martin, Elvis Patterson, Lawrence Taylor and Bill Parcells.

“The Players’ Tribune has become a destination for thoughtful, insightful storytelling related to topics both on and off the field,” said Jaymee Messler, president of The Players’ Tribune.

“We’re excited to introduce another medium for athletes to share stories and discuss important issues through a unique and intimate listening experience. DGital Media is a terrific partner on the launch of this newest extension of our premium content offerings.”

The Players’ Tribune was founded by Yankees star Derek Jeter so athletes could tell first-person stories, providing unique insight into the daily sports conversation. Those stories are told through long-and-short-form written stories, video series and now podcasts. More than 1,200 athletes have contributed to the platform, and the podcast network will give players another outlet.

“As the leading platform highlighting the voice of the athlete, DGital Media is extremely proud and honored to partner with the team at The Players Tribune,” says Chris Corcoran, Chief Content Officer, DGital Media.

“No other medium showcases the actual voice of the athlete better than audio and we’re thrilled to be creating compelling and impactful programming together with TPT, for fans and clients alike.”

Fans can also interact with the Players’ Tribune through social media on Facebook and Twitter.
