Unicode Committee has proposed a ginger-haired emoji, finally allowing redheads across the globe to join the world of emojis.

Emojipedia reports the committee - which is due to meet next week at the Apple campus - is set to go over a new proposal from the Unicode Subcommittee to iron out the details of a redhead emoji among others.

The Unicode Committee has been widely criticised for the lack of a redhead emoji in the past, with next week’s discussions set to include what range of current emojis will have a ginger hair option added as well as how customisable the new colour variation will be.

No decision has been made yet, but Emojipedia claims the meeting next week will set the wheels in motion with a redhead emoji “likely to appear in 2018 at the earliest”.

Last year Durex petitioned Unicode to add a condom emoji to the library but the request fell of deaf ears leaving the condom brand to take matters into its own hands on World Aids Day crowning the ‘Open Umbrella with Raindrops’ its unofficial safe sex emoji.
