Nintendo confirms 'end of life' for Wii U
Nintendo has confirmed it’s the end of the road for its Wii U games console.
First launched in 2012, the Wii U has struggled to match the success of the original Wii device.
Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo America, confirmed to Polygon that the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would be the final game for the device.
“We really are at the end of life for Wii U,” said Fils-Aime, assuring Wii U players that the company would still continue to provide online services for users, and that third-party publishers may still decide to release software.
Late last year Nintendo indicated it had no further plans to continue with production of Wii U hardware but had “nothing to announce in terms of exact timing”.
Nintendo is currently gearing up for the launch of its latest console the Nintendo Switch on 3 March which comes complete with a tablet-style motion sensitive controller which can slot into a dock for TV play or be carried out the door for remote play by those on the move.
