Monopoly players who fear a future with tokens including a Zack-Morris-like phone, be warned: Toy manufacturer Hasbro is once again threatening to axe its beloved tokens in the Monopoly Token Madness Vote.

Hasbro is asking fans to vote on the eight Monopoly tokens that will be included in an upcoming version of the game.

It is not an idle threat. As a result of a similar contest in 2013, fans of the poor iron saw their favorite token replaced by a cat.

Additional Monopoly tokens include the car, thimble, boot, top hat and battleship, which were among the original set released in 1935. The Scottie dog and wheelbarrow were added in the early 1950s, the brand said.

Through January 31, the brand is encouraging Monopoly enthusiasts to visit the Token Madness website to choose the eight tokens they want to see in an upcoming version of the game, which will be released in August.

A total of 50 contenders are available. In addition to the aforementioned Zack-Morris-like phone, options also include various emojis, as well as a hashtag symbol, a dinosaur, a trumpet, a roller skate, a cowboy boot and a bow tie.

Hasbro said it will reveal the results on World Monopoly Day, which, as we all know, is March 19.

“The Monopoly Token Madness Vote lets our passionate fans choose all eight tokens in the Monopoly game and no token -– not even the Scottie dog -- is safe!” said Jonathan Berkowitz, senior vice president of marketing for Hasbro Gaming, in a statement. “Only time will tell if fans will decide to stay with the classics, keep a few favorites or pick an entirely new line up of tokens.”

Hasbro said Monopoly is “enjoyed by more than one billion players” in 114 countries.
