Bloomberg Media has begun the New Year with a new head of Bloomberg Live, Stephen Colvin, who will lead the news agencies live event capabilities.

Colvin commenced his role on 3 January at Bloomberg’s New York base and will be tasked with growing the live events business to provide greater opportunities for breaking news and the chance to shape markets.

Bloomberg Media CEO Justin B. Smith said: “I’ve known Stephen for a long time, having worked with him more than a decade ago at The Week. It was there that I realized the power of live events. Arguably one of the oldest forms of media, live events is one of the fastest-growing segments of the media industry and are critical to executing a successful, modern multi-platform media strategy.”

Colvin added: “No matter where technology takes us there is always a need to convene thought leaders and decision makers to discuss the most important business topics of the day. Such events generate not only great insights and solutions, but also create opportunities for marketers to align their brands alongside meaningful conversations between global leaders, influencers and newsmakers, both at the event and on all the other Bloomberg media platforms.”

Colvin arrives at Bloomberg as CEO of Robb Report Media having spent time as president of The Daily Beast as well as EVP at CBS Interactive and executive in residence of the venture capital firm Lerer Hippeau Venture.

Bloomberg Live aims to furnish executive audiences and advertisers with ‘newsmaking experiences’.

Robb Report is itself now focussing on live reports and digital media through a partnership with Penske Media Corporation (PMC) and Rockbridge Growth Equity.
