Nike has partnered with world number one golfer Jason Day in a multi-year sponsorship deal worth a reported $10m a year.

Day broke the news of the long rumored deal on Instagram shortly before Nike released a promotional video of him wearing its apparel.

"Joining Nike is a dream come true," Day said. "The brand is synonymous with the world's best athletes. I'm honored and can't wait to be part of the team and working closely with Nike to take my game, and the sport of golf, to even higher levels."

The sportswear giant may have exited the golf equipment business in August 2016, however its presence within the sport remains strong given its roster of sponsored athletes. With Day joining the likes of Rory Mcllroy, Brooks Koepka and Paul Casey, Nike now has four of the top 16 ranked golfers in the world on its books. The addition of huge names like Tiger Woods means the brand has put itself in a strong position to capitalise on the sport outside of the equipment marketplace.

Day will be outfitted with Nike apparel at this week's Tournament of Champions in Kapalua where he will use TaylorMade clubs following the renewal of his partnership with the brand in September 2016.
