In light of a tumultuous political year both at home and abroad, one of Birmingham’s favourite sons of advertising, Tim Rees – a co-founder at Meriden-based creative agency RBH – has released a new Christmas album entitled Merry Brexmas Everybody.

Tracks on the new release, Tim’s first attempt at storming the mainstream music charts having had “Possibly at least one number-one-selling album in Meriden,” as he puts it, deal with many of the political hot potatoes that have kept us all awake during the last 12 months. As the title suggests, the content centres on Brexit and many of the songs highlight some of the thorny issues that could present themselves during 2017.

Always one with his finger on the pulse, Rees is hoping that his seasonal/topical Brexit offering will remind everyone of the challenges that change will throw at us next year – challenges that together we’ll meet head-on as usual to give us all the best possible start to 2017 and help keep us at the top of the tree.

Speaking of the release, Rees said: “I suppose in some ways many would describe this as a protest album as many of the songs highlight the political, social and economical ills of the world. But I prefer to think of it as a love album and anyone who knows me will agree that I have always been an old romantic at heart.”

Reviewing the album (with his tongue firmly in his cheek) Richard Draycott, managing director of The Drum Network, said: “When I heard Tim had laid down some tracks I have to say I didn’t hold out much hope for a Christmas number one, but having listened to his work I’m pleasantly surprised and genuinely think he does have a shot of keeping that chap who won the X Factor off the top spot come Christmas Day. That said, I would like to quash the rumours that Tim has already been booked to play The Drum Network Awards in 2017, negotiations are on-going.”
