President-elect Donald Trump has made an effort to reach out to minorities with the selection of PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi to join his policy team, joining a select group of business leaders chosen to inform future decision making.

According to the Trump transition team Indian-born Nooyi will be tasked with advising the future president on how his government’s policy will impact ‘economic growth, job creation and productivity.’

In this Nooyi will take her place alongside an august list of 19 American business leaders; including Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick, Tesla chairman Elon Musk and Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger.

Nooyi’s pick for the president’s strategic and policy forum follows widely publicized remarks in the immediate aftermath of Trump’s victory, in which she reportedly said: “I had to answer a lot of questions, from my daughters, from my employees -- they were all in mourning," she said. "Our employees are all crying and the question that they are asking, especially those who are not white: 'Are we safe?' Women are asking, 'Are we safe?' L.G.B.T. people are asking, 'Are we safe?' I never thought I'd have had to answer those questions."

Following a backlash from Trump supporters Pepsico later issued a clarification of these remarks, pointing out that they referred to a ‘group of employees’ and were not representative of the company as a whole.
