Communisis will handle all of HMRC's outbound customer communications.

The marketing firm has agreed a five-year contract with HMRC, consisting of an initial three years with the option of a further two-year extension.

It is scheduled to begin work in mid-2017 when it will oversee the huge outbound communications which HMRC undertakes, including the issuing 185 million letters each year and the deployment of document composition technology.

"We are very pleased to have been awarded this landmark contract from HMRC,” said Communisis chief executive, Andy Blundell.

He added: “Communisis offered an optimum technology solution, displaying the best understanding of the business requirements. We are excited to be starting this new relationship, in support of HMRC's "digital by default" agenda."

Communisis has experience in handling large customer communication contracts having worked with major utility companies, banks and insurers.
