Fans of the BBC’s Sherlock will be able to watch the final episode of series four - ‘The Final Problem’ - on the big screen thanks to a deal with Heartwood Films.

On 1 January 2016 Sherlock fans were treated to one-off special ‘The Abominable Bride’ on cinema screens and now, more than 300 venues across the UK will screen the episode on Sunday 15 January 2017.

“Fans clearly enjoyed the opportunity of watching ‘The Abominable Bride’ in cinemas last time so Hartswood Films are thrilled to be working with BBC Worldwide again to do the same for this series four finale,” commented Sherlock producer Sue Vertue.

Mat Way, BBC Worldwide’s commercial director of live entertainment added that the “filmic qualities” of the show make it “perfect cinema viewing”.

“We are delighted to be able to offer the UK and Irish fans the opportunity to enjoy the epic Sherlock finale on the big screen,” said Way.

Sherlock is set to return to the BBC for a three-part run on New Year’s Day.
