Would-be Snapchat Spectacles wearers stymied by long and short-sightedness can rejoice after an officially sanctioned third party provider stepped into the breach to offer prescription lenses.

Starting at $99 for the weakest prescriptions the service means those who fall short of 20/20 vision can now join in the Spectacle fun, although they will still need to track down a pair of the elusive camera equipped sunglasses first.

Vision enthusiasts will also be able to see clearly with advance features such as antireflective coating and extras such as photochromic and polarized optics supplied by Rochester Optical – which also provides glass for Microsoft’s HoloLens, Google Glass and Intel's Recon Jet.

Patrick Ho, chief executive of Rochester Optical, said: “We've been working with heads-up displays for a long time, and Spectacles are just a form of smart glasses without the heads-up display.”

Up till now prospective customers have had to trek to a series of random locations to track down a pair but from today Snap will finally allow customers to place online orders.
