Culminating its Rebel with a Cause campaign, Canon chose photographer and shelter advocate Guinnevere Shuster as someone who embodied the “rebel in all of us.” In honor of the 25th anniversary of the first EOS Rebel SLR camera, Shuster captured a “dog’s best day” with shelter dog, Willa.
Choosing four-year-old Willa from the Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, Shuster was able to give the pup the superstar treatment. The video captures Shuster photographing Willa as she rolls around, plays with toys, frolics through bubbles, eats a gourmet meal of different types of meat, as well as other fun dog activities.
“Four years ago, I started photographing shelter dogs. With millions of animals still in shelters looking for their forever home, I wanted to try and make a difference and do my part to change people’s opinions of animal shelters and their residents,” Shuster said. “It’s been amazing working with Canon to change the portrayal of shelter animals by showcasing how to use photography to capture dogs in their natural state, having fun, rather than the stereotypical pictures that show shelter animals behind ‘bars.’”
The video encourages viewers to visit their local shelter and adopt today. In addition to creating the video, Shuster also partnered with Dogs of Instagram to work to get Willa adopted — which she has been, according to advertising and marketing agency, GREY.
“Canon is pleased to stand alongside Guinnevere Shuster, the winner of our consumer contest and Canon’s final Rebel with A Cause, and share her story as she advocates for shelter animals,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “Guinnevere embodies the modern rebel in the world today and shares a passion that many share around the country. Using her passion for photography, Guinnevere aims to make a difference by finding shelter dogs their forever homes.”
This video with Schuster and Willa culminates Canon’s Rebel With A Cause campaign which was created in 2015, with the help of Grey, to highlight “rebels” who live life in their own way, shot with a Canon EOS Rebel DSLR camera.
In October, Canon turned to social influencer Anna Akana, who has over 1.5 million subscribers to her YouTube channel, for their “Rebel With a Cause” piece around anti-bullying celebrating the 10th anniversary of National Bullying Prevention Month. Akana’ shared her personal story on YouTube, after her sister committed suicide as a result of bullying.
