Cooper joined BuzzFeed a year and a half ago from PepsiCo, where he served as chief marketing officer-global consumer engagement, according to his LinkedIn.

His departure comes just days after NBCUniversal doubled their investment in BuzzFeed, bringing NBCUniversal’s stake in the site to $400m and putting BuzzFeed’s valuation at roughly $1.7bn. The latest funding will allow NBC and BuzzFeed to work more closely together on ad sales and digital video production.

According to the Wall Street Journal, BuzzFeed missed its revenue projection for 2015 by about 20% but is on track this year to meet its new target.
