As the US cleaned up turkeys and went Black Friday shopping, Netflix released its four-part Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Released at 3:01 am Friday, the four 90-minute episodes, which were broke down into fall, winter, spring and summer, had many glued to their couches with their Pop Tarts, cups of coffee and streaming subscription.

One of the most anticipated arrivals —16 years after the premiere of the first episode on October 5, 2000 — has had much fanfare around it since the announcement that Rory, Lorelei and the rest of the cast would make their return to the screen.

Beginning with teasers that captured everything from season recaps to the announcement that Netflix was to expand Gilmore Girls internationally on July 1, to sneak peeks from the actors, to countdowns, fans were transported to Stars Hollow, just like they were watching the original season all those years ago.

To keep the momentum going heading into the revival, Netflix created Luke’s Diner in over 200 coffee shops to transport visitors to the show’s fictional Stars Hollow on the show’s anniversary on October 5. Giving out free coffee from 7 am to 12 pm, visitors grabbed a free cup with Luke’s sleeve, as well as were met with Luke cutouts, menus and more.

Additionally, the quaint town that the show is based on, Washington, Connecticut opened its doors to fans from October 21-23 for its Fan Fest. With screenings of a collection of past Gilmore Girls episodes, a Friday night dinner, tea at a local inn, dance recitals, book readings, and even a knit-a-thon, fans got to experience their favorite parts of the town with several cast members including Kelly Bishop (Emily), Jackson Douglas (Jackson), Yanic Truesdale (Michel), and Vanessa Marano (April). Playing along with the show’s storyline and its addiction to coffee, according to the festival’s event description, they worked to “provide as much caffeine as possible.”

Many years in the making, series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, who left the series before the seventh season, as teased the last four words of the series that she never had the chance to see lived out. Building up the anticipation of the proper show’s ending, viewers now have their answer.

SPOILER AHEAD

Rory: "Mom?"

Lorelai: "Yeah?"

Rory: "I'm pregnant."

With those four words, the curtain closes on Netflix’s revival of Star Hollows.
