Intel brings the latest tech - and Snapchat - to the stage to mark 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death
Intel has joined forces with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and The Imaginarium Studios to bring the latest technology to a digitally-reimagined production of ‘The Tempest’ marking the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.
Together, Intel, RSC and The Imaginarium Studios have created a new audience experience rendering a digital character - Ariel the sprite - live on stage. Typically reserved for pre-recorded content like video games and films, performance capture technology from The Imaginarium Studios allows the digital avatar to interact with live actors in real-time.
More than a year in the making, the avatar features 336 joints, equivalent to every joint in the human body, to match the spontaneity of live theatre. Additionally, the avatar is powered by a PC that has 50-million times more memory than the one that put man on the moon.
Running in conjunction with the play Intel has also created a Snapchat lens to celebrate the partnership with the lens taking one or two of the many forms Ariel takes throughout the show.
The Tempest is running now in Stratford-Upon-Avon until 21 January 2017.
