Alphabet forms Google Cloud AI unit
Google parent Alphabet has announced the creation of an artificial intelligence unit for Google Cloud which the tech firm hopes will increase its market share in the fast-growing sector.
The new team’s formation was announced by Diane Greene, head of Google’s Cloud business, at its San Francisco HQ and will be led by Stanford University intelligence professor Fei-Fei Li working alongside researcher Jia Li.
Greene remarked: “What really attracted these two people to come and be in Google Cloud is a chance to democratize machine learning and artificial intelligence.”
Google is allocating increased resources to the lucrative business having recently expanded its services to offer Cloud SQL, Cloud Bigtable and Cloud Datastore to corporate clients.
