Purchased by pro-Clinton Super PAC, Priorities, the buy marks the first time that a US political candidate has used the ad format as part of their campaign.

The sponsored selfie lens will let Snapchatters overlay a real-time animated version of Clinton's face on to their own, and will be live nationwide from today.

Meanwhile, a separate drive paid for by Clinton's group will comprise of a national Snapchat Geofilter which lets users overlay their snaps with a still image to show their friends where they are and mark special occasions. The Drum understands that in the US, a single National Sponsored Geofilter typically reaches 40% to 60% daily Snapchat users.

Cliton's rival and Republican candidate Donald Trump will also be running a national Geofilter on Tuesday as voters head to the polls, but no further details around his template have been released.

Thanks to its 150 million strong and largely millennial, audience Snapchat has played host to a number of political campaigns in the run up to the election. From Trump running national Geofilters on debate days to video ads (or Snap Ads) from initial candidates including Clinton herself, Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz. The messaging app has been integrated into the two main candidates' strategies for fundraising, persuasion and mobilisation.
