America’s NFL is embracing virtual reality in a big way having commissioned a nine-part series shot in the format for YouTube which will be available to view from 24 November.

Produced by NFL Films in collaboration with Google Jump, each 360-degree video will be available to view on Google’s Daydream headset when it releases later this year.

Those who take the plunge are promised the experience of ‘spend a week with the Philadelphia Eagles defensive line as they prepare for the upcoming matchup and gain exclusive access to the Eagles bench and sideline on game day.'

To keep viewers engaged future episodes will allow users to stand alongside the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders and immerse themselves in the sport in ways not possible before.

The NFL claim their series will be the first episodic sports program ever made for VR in a sign of growing interest in the format by the sporting world. Most recently this saw the NBA agree to stream one game per week of their current season on Oculus.

The NFL is seeking new ways to diversify its audience following a lacklustre foray into Twitter live-streaming which left advertisers 'disappointed'.
