Melania Trump has emerged from the shadows to talk up the prospect of her husband obtaining the keys to the White House whilst warning that technology has a ‘bad side’ – an apparent reference to an often-ill-tempered campaign which has polarized debate on both sides.

Speaking directly to female suburban voters at a rally in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, Ms Trump singled out the rise of cyber-bullying as cause for concern she said: “Technology has changed our universe, but like anything that is powerful, it can have a bad side. Children and teenagers can be fragile. They are hurt when they are made fun of or made to feel less in looks or intelligence.

"We need to teach our youth American values - kindness, honesty, respect, compassion, charity, understanding, cooperation.”

The emotional address focused on the bonds of family and is Melania Trump’s first major conference appearance since she was enveloped in a plagiarism storm after commentators noticed that an earlier speech included verbatim excerpts of a speech made by the current first lady, Michelle Obama.

With the latest polls indicating a tightening race Donald Trump’s campaign team have been desperate to keep their firebrand figurehead on a tight leash before the 8 November election, wheeling out Ms Trump to humanize her husband in the eyes of wavering voters.
