Kickstarter embraces live-streaming to modernise fundraising
Crowdfunding platform Kickstarter is allowing project managers to utilise live-streaming to bolster engagement with donors on the site.
Kickstarter Live
Dubbed ‘a new way to bring creations to life,’ creators can now stream video to backers to enable regular updates and feedback, potentially increasing the transparency of the process.
It suggests using the service to publicise “musical performances, cooking shows, product demos, game demos and rehearsals” as a means of inspiring new backers to pitch in.
Yancey Strickler, founder of Kickstarter, said: “Kickstarter Live is a new way to share and experience the creative journey as it happens. Kickstarter Live brings live video and real time community engagement onto Kickstarter for the first time.”
He claimed that it lets creators build on the “intimacy” with backers: “It brings creators and the people supporting them right into the same room together. And it encourages personal connection. Viewers can ask questions, chat, send selfies, select rewards, and back the project — all while tuned in.”
The feature was built in collaboration with Vancouver startup Huzza, with the promise of additional integration to come.
