Dunkin Donuts is pioneering a new form of mobile payments and gifting by allowing patrons to process payments directly within iOS 10 messages.

By accessing the updated Dunkin’ Mobile app customers can send gift cards to friends, family and co-workers as readily as a simple emoji by using Apple Pay to purchase mGifts. Upon receipt these codes can be registered for use on the Dunkin’ Mobile App.

Apple's payment technology is proving increasingly attractive to coffee chains looking to offer customers their caffeine fix without the faff of cash.

Amongst other services the new app will offer multiple device log-in options, 3D touch functionality for common actions, a revamped home screen layout and text reader compatibility.

Sherrill Kaplan, vice president of digital marketing & innovation for Dunkin' Brands: "Dunkin' Donuts is committed to leveraging the best and most innovative technologies to provide our guests with greater levels of convenience. Apple Pay in our stores and our app is already very popular and we are excited have stickers in Messages and create new ways for people to enjoy our coffee, food and beverages, and to share their love for our brand.”

It is hoped that these updates will drive doughnut consumption by allowing prospective Apple customers to locate their nearest Dunkin’ Donuts, browse the menu and take advantage of various perks, coupons and vouchers all from the confines of their phone.
