Last month, the Mondelez-owned firm invited fans to vote for which flavour its next cookie should be; Lemon Twist, Coconut Delight, Banana Splash or Brownie Batter. The last option has been crowned the winner, with 43 per cent of respondents voting for the cake the mix option.

The new product will hit shelves at the end of summer next year, joining the Chocolate, Mint and Peanut Butter flavours in supermarkets.

"We are delighted to announce that Brownie Batter is the public’s winning choice and will be the next addition to the range. The Oreo team will now get straight to work ensuring Brownie Batter will be ready for our fans to enjoy at the end of summer 2017," said Helen Potter, Oreo's senior brand manager.

"The popularity of the public vote just highlights how excited and passionate our consumers are for Oreo and the whole flavours range. It’s great to be able to get input directly from our fans and give them a product they really want."

Oreo's UK marketing campaign has centered heavily around its flavour options over the last three months. Back in August the brand launched a £3.4m multi-channel push, which included an 'Orea Flavour Mobile' on London's Southbank.
