Michael Moore tackles Trump in a surprise film
Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore, who has never been one to shy away from controversy, is wading into the shark-infested waters that are the 2016 election with a new film, Michael Moore in TrumpLand.
Michael Moore is releasing a film about Trump.
Moore teased what he called the #OctoberSurprise on Twitter on October 17 before inviting his 3 million followers to New York City’s IFC Center at 9:30 PM on October 18 for “a peek @ what I've been up 2."
According to the IFC Center, the film officially opens October 19, but will be preceded by a free sneak preview the night before with Moore himself.
“See the film Ohio Republicans tried to shut down,” the IFC Center says on its website. “Oscar-winner Michael Moore dives right into hostile territory with his daring and hilarious one-man show, deep in the heart of TrumpLand in the weeks before the 2016 election.”
According to Deadline, the film is based on a one-man play Moore was trying to mount at the Midland Theatre in Newark, Ohio until he said management decided he was too controversial.
Deadline also reports Moore “literally just hired a publicist who is figuring out last minute press screenings in Los Angeles and New York.”
The Hollywood Reporter, however, cited a story in the Columbus Dispatch that said the theater’s decision was based on several factors, including “a too-short time frame and questions about what the production involved.”
Deadline reports the film will also be available on iTunes.
