Greggs is expanding its offering to test out deliveries at a Newcastle business estate to gauge interest for on-demand pastry.

Cobalt Business Park, which houses 14,000 employees across companies like Tesco, Siemens and Fujitsu will be the testing ground for the lunchtime deliveries – in a scheme called 'Greggs Delivered'.

The Newcastle Chronicle reports that the trial will expand beyond the business park, with pastries, sandwiches and salads among the items on the menu.

The localised scheme hints at a wider strategy to disrupt the baked goods market, with the potential roll out of a nationwide delivery system, following on from the company’s seemingly success store refresh.

Amy Carroll, comms manager at Cobalt Business Park, said: “I am sure Greggs Delivered will provide a popular choice for our businesses catering for meetings and for people who just fancy a team lunch.

London and Manchester are also reportedly being eyed for the expansion.
