The Drum Dream Awards celebrated the best of the industry's big ideas last night, but this year the scheme also recognised leading female creative talent with its inaugural Creative Woman of the Year trophy.

For the first time ever, the prize was awarded to Emma De La Fosse, Ogilvy & Mather UK’s group chief creative officer. De La Fosse joined the agency in 2011 alongside her creative partner and husband Charlie Wilson and has picked up a string of awards for her work on campaigns for the likes of British Airways, IBM and more.

The Creative Woman of the the Year Award was supported by Creative Equals – the kitemark of gender equality for the creative industry – to celebrate the industry’s leading female creative talent. The shortlist was announced last week, and included industry figures like CHI&Partners’ Laura Rogers, Hana Tanimura, creative and designer at Google Creative Lab and more.

"The quality of applicants was truly outstanding and following a robust process, conducted by The Drum’s research team, we managed to narrow it down to our top contenders,” said The Dream Awards’ judging panel at the black-tie event yesterday evening.

Due to a prior engagement De La Fosse couldn’t attend the awards ceremony, but taped an acceptance speech for attendees during which she praised The Drum for turning the spotlight on female creatives.

"This is a huge honour," said De La Fosse, “I'm thrilled to bits, not least because this has been an interesting last few months since I started in my role as group chief creative officer at Ogilvy.

"It's a role that's never been done before, I haven't done it, nobody's done it; it has very much been a voyage of discovery, and like most voyages, it's had its ups and downs and rollercoaster moments, but to be given an honour like this is a massive boost for me, it has really done wonders for my confidence and it's just great to know that I have your support and that I have you best wishes.

"It makes a massive difference, and actually for women in creative leadership roles it's this kind of support and acknowledgement of what we're all doing that does really, really help,” she finished.
