Now accepting real results: Effies campaign pokes fun at the fakers
Go on, admit it. You migggght have plumped up some numbers to make sure they look good to the client. I mean, maybe not to the degree that Facebook puffed up video views — or like the various scam ads that have dotted the landscape — but you get the point.
In a clever pro-bono campaign from NYC independent Walrus, the Effie Awards, dedicated to effectiveness in advertising, is putting that elephant in the room. Juicing impressions, nailing that perfect VO and, my personal favorite, the ‘ol semantics on sales figures.
One place we might take a little umbrage is on the “Logos” spot. We’re certainly grateful that we’re in there, but when that HuffPost logo covers The Drum logo up…I mean, couldn’t they have given Adweek and Ad Age a little of the business? (Ed. note: Zanger is just being a baby. And he’s kidding. We’re thrilled.)
All kidding aside, this kind of advertising is tough — but serious hat tips to Walrus and the Effies for putting out there the things of which we are all abundantly aware. The Effie ain’t easy to win for a reason — now go forth and get your entires in. The first deadline is October 11th and final deadline is November 9th.
And don’t cheat. We’ll all know if you did.
