This week has seen another wave of appointments and departures at brands, media owners and agencies. The Drum has rounded up the key moves from the EMEA, APAC and North America regions below.

EMEA people are on the move

The Drum

The Drum has made a number of promotions as it continues to focus on driving its international growth with the appointment of Cameron Clarke as deputy editor, Thomas O'Neill as managing editor and Katie McQuater as magazine editor.

Clarke, who has been with The Drum for nine years, will be charged with supporting the whole editorial team in meeting the various requirements of their roles, while O'Neill, who steps up from magazine editor, will be tasked with enriching the overall experience and consistency of the publication's various content platforms, focusing on the look and quality across print and online.

Meanwhile McQuater, formerly features editor, will take over responsibility for content and the direction of the magazine and extending that through to The Drum website, which is still Europe's best read media and marketing title.

IBM

Salesforce Marketing Cloud's head of digital strategy in EMEA, Jeremy Waite has left the company to take up the role of strategic marketing evangelist at IBM.

In his new role Waite will be working with the Marketing Cloud business in London and Atlanta, as well as teams working on Watson, IBM Commerce and digital agency IBM iX.

In a post on his blog Waite said of the new role: "Of course, IBM has an exciting past, but I’m more interested in what their technology might do in the future. Many people know IBM as the company that invented barcodes, airline reservation systems, ATMs, the personal computer industry, space programs and traffic lights ~ but it is also the company that is developing driverless cars, smart cities and cures for cancer, as well as leading the way in cognitive computing and customer experience analytics."

Maxus

Jen Smith has been appointed in the newly created role of global creative director for both Maxus UK and Maxus Global.

Since joining the agency in 2013 as head of planning, Smith has worked on a number of initiatives that were instrumental for Maxus including 'Walk The Talk' and 'Change Planning'.

In her new role, Smith will focus on the delivery of creative work for clients both in the UK and globally while expanding the UK creativity leadership programme out to all Maxus employees.

Deezer

Deezer has announced two new appointments this week Jorge Rincon as vice-president of North America and Phil Moore as vice-president of southern Europe and MEA in the hope to drive the growth of the music streaming service.

Joining the team from Millicom as director of digital products and business development, Rincon will be responsible for all operations in North America and Canada including the expansion of the companies partner network.

Moore joins the company following 25 years in the telecoms and consumer electronics market having previously worked at Huawei Technologies. He said: “Not only is there potential for growing the band, but there is a real appetite for another player to enter these markets that can bring something new to the table.”

Minimart

Independent agency Minimart has announced the appointment of Brent Gosling in the newly created role of strategy partner.

With over 25 years’ experience, including a career with Jaguar Cars and Ogilvy, Gosling will work on driving the agency’s growth to a new stage of development.

Ed Chilcott, Founding Creative Partner at Minimart, said; “We’re delighted to have Brent joining the team as strategic partner. It’s an exciting time for the Minimart, and Brent’s experience across some pretty iconic brands will not only benefit current clients but help lead the agency’s thinking into the next phase.

Clear Channel

Out of home advertising company Clear Channel International (CCI) has appointed Cadi Jones to its newly created title of commercial innovation director.

She is tasked with handling CCI’s global programmatic advertising strategy and the development of its digital expansion in the role, drawing from her experience at the Pangaea Alliance as global sales director and Yahoo as audience and programmatic director Northern Europe.

Reporting to Stefan Lameire, CCI chief customer and revenue officer, she will lead a multi-market team to deliver the programmatic offering from the headquarters in London.

Agenda21 Digital

Agenda21 Digital has announced Volker Ballueder as head of media.

With over a decade of experience in digital, Ballueder joins the agency contuining as advisor at Video Agnostic and having been one of the first people involved in programmatic in the UK.

In his new role, Ballueder will be heading the media team, looking after all clients’ digital media planning and buying activity.

WRG

WRG’s Russ Lidstone, who become chief executive earlier this year, has made his first senior placement with the promotion of Maddy Allen to client director.

After joining the agency in 2009 as project co-ordinator, Allen has worked her way up the ranks in production and client services. In her new role, Allen will work with clients in the pharmaceutical industry and leading global accounts.

Lidstone said about the promotion: “In my time at the agency Maddy has impressed me hugely. She’s a great embodiment of the talent and capability at WRG.”

MHP Communications

MHP Communcations has announced the arrival of Alex Biggs as chief executive officer.

Biggs joins the agency from Edelman, where he was general manager of the London office and part of the senior team.

Alex Bigg said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining MHP. It is an agency whose fortunes I have followed over many years. It’s going to be a challenging but exciting process.”

Mirum

Tony Markovski has been announced as the head of mobile and innovation EMEA at Mirum.

With over 15 years’ experience in the industry, Markovski has worked with companies such as Google, Adobe and Bazaarvoice.

Speaking about his plans following the announcement, he said: “In this fresh position, my three main focuses will be mobile, innovation and emerging technologies such as the internet of things, artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality.”

MullenLowe

MullenLowe has promoted Dale Gall to UK group chief executive as Jamie Elliott departs to “explore other leadership opportunities”.

Effective immediately, the former chief executive of MullenLowe Profero UK will now report into global chief executive Alex Leikikh as he oversees the group of agencies, including MullenLowe London, MullenLowe Profero, MullenLowe Open and MullenLowe Mediahub.

Gall will work closely with the existing leadership team including longstanding MullenLowe London chairman and IPA president, Tom Knox.

Incorporated Society of British Advertisers

The Incorporated Society of British Advertisers (ISBA) has announced that its director general Mike Hughes will step down early next year.

It ends his ten-year stint at the head of the organisation and he intends to take on non-executive roles in addition to advising businesses on how to secure an AIM listing

Commenting on his departure, Hughes said: "I’ve really enjoyed the past 10 years and it’s now time to pass the torch and move on to the next chapter of life.”

The Gild

The Gild has welcomed four new recruits this week across strategy, insights and account management.

Joining the brand consultancy agency is ex-Aesop board director Andrew Coyler as executive strategy director bringing over 20 years' experience in the industry. Esther Garland will also join the agency as insight and strategy director as well as Cassandra Hall as strategist and Sarah Burns as senior account manager.

Andrew Mullholland, chief exexutive at The Gild, said: “The current model of brand consultancy is no longer fit for purpose; but a new breed is coming to the fore placing consumer insight at its heart and reinvigorating the future of the industry.”

APAC people on the move

MRM/McCann

MRM/McCann has announced two new senior appointments this week with Steven Hua as general manager and Richard Wang as creative partner with immediate effect.

Hua will be responsible for overseeing the business portfolio of the Beijing office and will report to Mike Zeng, managing director or MRM/McCann China. While Wang’s newly created role will allow him to oversee the creative development of each account in the Beijing office reporting to Hua.

Previously Hua has worked with brands including Coca Cola and Tencent in China while Wang has worked with Huawei, China CITIC Bank and IBM.

BDDO

BBDO Asia has appointed Nick Morrell as regional business director.

With 19 years in the industry and most recently having left Saatchi & Saatchi Singapore, Morrell lead a team to work on Pampers business creating the brands recent works. He has also worked with a range of different brands including Coca-Cola, Lego, Renault and P&G.

Commenting on what is to be expected in his new role, Morrell said: “I believe that simple ideas resonate regardless of platform or touchpoint and I look forward to helping drive our work to the next level of integration across Asia.”

Hulsbosch

Simon Hong has been appointed executive creative director by brand and design agency Hulsbosch.

In the new role, Hong will manage the agency’s creative development and direction along with Hans Hulsbosch.

With 20 years in the industry working across various disciplines, Hong said: “I’m excited to lead an impressive creative team. Together, we will pursue innovative and game-changing branding solutions for clients to achieve cut-through and commercial success.”

North America people on the move

Saatchi & Saatchi New York

Saatchi & Saatchi New York has made some surprising changes to its senior leadership after parting ways with chief executive Brent Smart and chief creative officer Jay Benjamin.

Both Smart and Benjamin left the agency on 1 September to pursue other opportunities following lengthy discussions over who will take up their roles.

The agency’s New York president, Andrea Diquez, and Saatchi & Saatchi Latin American chief creative officer, Javier Campopiano, will replace them.

Twitter

Twitter has announced that Jayanta Jenkins will become its new global group creative director, a move that is expected to bring his unique eye to the "in the now" platform that characterizes Twitter.

Jenkins was most recently at Apple/Beats by Dre, TBWA\Chiat\Day, Wieden + Kennedy, Gatorade, and Nike.

Publicis

Publicis has promoted Melissa Nelson to the new position of president following her leadership of Seattle’s T-Mobile business.

Nelson had been named executive vice-president and managing partner for the marquee T-Mobile business in December 2015, and this promotion helps solidify the relationship between the agency and the communications brand.

"Melissa's leadership on T-Mobile and her passion for their brand and business will be enriched in her new post," shared Andrew Bruce, Publicis Worldwide North America chief executive, to whom Nelson will be reporting. “Additionally, now her expertise and leadership will extend to all clients and the talented individuals who fuel our agency here in Seattle.”

Brownstein Group

Carrie McCament has joined Philadelphia's Brownstein Group as chief marketing officer.

McCament will oversee Brownstein Group’s overall brand positioning and marketing initiatives while focusing on the agency's strategic growth.

She brings 30 years of marketing and business development experience with her, having worked with IPG, Omnicom and Publicis previously.

Sid Lee

Will Travis, chief executive of Sid Lee’s New York and LA offices, has stepped into the role of US executive chairman and global head growth officer as the Montreal-based agency aims to increase its international profile.

Travis said he’ll be tasked with helping to formulate the agency’s overall expansion strategy while liaising with other members of Kyu, the collective Sid Lee joined last year when it was acquired by Japanese holding company Hakuhodo.

Since the agency’s five offices work with a number of global brands, including Facebook, Stella and Absolut, Travis that he will focus on servicing international clients by working with partners and leveraging the power of its network to provide them with the services they are looking for.

Team One

Tim Wettstein has joined Los Angeles-based marketing communications agency Team One as executive creative director on the Lexus brand at the company’s Dallas office, where he will join executive director Paul Silverman.

Wettstein is an award-winning veteran of the creative world, with international experience at other notable shops, including JWT, CP+B and 72andSunny. He brings creative expertise and a global cultural perspective to Team One, having worked with brands such as Lexus, Indian Motorcycles, EA and The Ritz-Carlton.

“Tim brings a truly integrated way of thinking that will be a perfect addition to the creative leadership team,” said Team One chief creative officer Chris Graves. “He’s a talented creative with a passion for design and problem-solving, and his energy and enthusiasm are contagious.”

Wire Stone

Wire Stone has announced the appointment of Drew Rayman as chief marketing officer following the purchase of New York based Tenthwave Digital.

Rayman will continue to raise the profile of the agency while also leading efforts to improve customer experience for clients.

He said: “With customers expecting increasingly more from their brand experience, we have the acumen to truly transform how our clients’ customers engage with the brands we work with.”
