Working in the entertainment industry does not define Kathryn Schotthoefer. Neither does her multi-cultural background. Neither does her former existence as a musician or her philanthropic efforts. All those aspects of her do combine, however, to making her the successful person she is today, which is the president of M&C Saatchi, Heavenspot – a socially-powered digital creative agency in Los Angeles.

“I'm a mom, a board member, a startup advisor and an activist. I'm a musician, a writer and a pretty good cook,” said Schotthoefer, and all those things still just scratches the surface of who she is.

As the president of Heavenspot, she has worked with some of the biggest clients in the entertainment business, including ABC, AMC, the Coachella festival, the movie industry, and a rising number of clients in the gaming and app world.

Many may see her as fearless, but she notes that everybody has some sort of fear. It’s conquering that fear with confidence and assurance, like her 6-year-old daughter, who dances in the street and speaks her mind, or middle eastern refugees who escape horrible situations to care for their families in unknown lands.

Schotthoefer finds people interesting and complicated, and she thinks watching how humanity evolves is fascinating. She would also rather be texted than called, that way she can have multiple conversations without having to spend time talking.

Her advice to others is: be who you are, not who others think you should be. She also believes everyone should learn how to cook, even if it’s just the basics, and knowing basic travel phrases in major languages can get you through many situations and help you connect with people.

Ultimately, she is a people person, which has led her to work with the Global Gift Foundation, which funds life-changing projects for women, children and families in need, something that recently found her accepting an award for her efforts. Schotthoefer truly thinks everyone must open themselves up to love: loving friends, loving children and being open to receiving that. “That, to me, is the pinnacle of human experience.”
