Olympic ticket touts arrested by Brazilian police

Brazilian authorities have moved swiftly to arrest two employees of a British firm linked to a black market Rio 2016 ticket resale ring after being apprehended carrying over 1,000 tickets between them valued at £7.5m.

Kevin James Mallon from Ireland and Barbara Carniero from Ireland, both of whom are employees of THG Sports, were caught during a raid conducted last week following which Mallon was arrested for conspiracy and facilitating the illegal sale of tickets.

London-based THG Sports chief executive James Sinton has form in this area, having previously been arrested during the 2014 FIFA World Cup for 'unlawful action’.

Officials believe that tickets for the opening ceremony were being flogged on the street for as much as £6,000 apiece.
