Kitbag takes Twitter back to 1966 for 50th anniversary of England's World Cup win
Sports retailer Kitbag is taking social media back in time today to commemorate the 50th anniversary of England's World Cup triumph.
Kitbag will recreate the 1966 World Cup final in real-time
The Manchester-based firm will devote its Twitter feed to 'real-time' coverage of the England v West Germany final to demonstrate how the dramatic game would have played out on social media if it existed at the time.
Social media manager James Travis said: “We wanted to celebrate the anniversary of English football’s greatest ever day in a way that was engaging and genuinely different.
"Social media has changed the face of global communications and so to marry up Twitter with real-time coverage of an event that happened half a century ago seemed a great way to honour the anniversary. We hope it’ll bring the game to life for the generations of fans for whom it’s only a story in a history book."
The feed will start at 2pm with the announcement of the team sheets 'from Wembley Stadium' followed by kick off at 3pm, the 'Russian linesman incident' at 5.06pm and the moment of glory at 5.32pm.
