The Drum is launching the Marketing Can Change the World Awards to honour the creative thinking that tackles real-life issues in a meaningful way.

Social good has emerged as an increasingly important focus for many marketers, agencies and The Drum itself, and these awards will recognise the industry’s contribution to important causes beyond their everyday client work.

BBH New York and Make Love Not Porn founder Cindy Gallop, Visa head of digital and CSR Nick Jones and Thomas Kolster, author of Mr Goodvertising, are among the senior industry figures who will be judging the inaugural awards. More will be revealed in due course.

Lynn Lester, managing director of events at The Drum, said: “At The Drum we truly believe that marketing can change the world and these awards will be the platform in giving a nod to those who are making the biggest impact. In a world where disarray and negativity too often take centre stage, it is important to recognise the difference this industry’s talents and ingenuity can make to the wider world.

“This isn’t just an awards show; it’s a reality check that the marketing industry isn’t just beavering away in its own little bubble. It’s contributing more than we give it credit for to the world at large.”

The awards, sponsored by Clear channel, xAd, Undercurrent and gyro, are open for entries until 5pm on Friday 23 September and the winners will be announced as part of The Drum’s Do It Day event on 10 November.

After a successful first year which saw it named event of the year at the British Media Awards, Do It Day will once again challenge the marketing industry to do its bit to make the world a better place in just one day.
