Combing through the web infrastructure of leading economies, the report found that at least in the mobile domain, the UK boasts the fastest speeds, an average of 27.9 Mbps during Q1 2016.

On average, this speed was 10 Mbps faster than other European countries, largely aided by the saturation of the UK's population across a smaller landmass than some European rivals. The UK was, for example, found to be 20 Mbps faster than the US, which performed worse than Turkey, Kenya, and Paraguay, according to the Verge.

Across the globe, average mobile speeds were up by 12 per cent in between Q4 2015 and Q1 2016, hinting at the strengthening of infrastructure.

On broadband, the UK performs much poorer, failing to rank in the top ten speeds which is led by South Korea with 29 Mbps.
