People on the move: Hires and departures at Facebook, WeTransfer, RKCR/Y&R and more

This week has seen another wave of appointments and departures at brands, media owners and agencies. The Drum has rounded up the key hires below.

Facebook

Facebook has appointed Chelsea Football Club’s head of digital marketing Jerry Newman (see above) as its new lead for sport across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Newman joins Facebook after eight years with the Premier League club and will be responsible for sports partnerships with teams, players and sport media organisations across the EMEA region.

He will be based at Facebook's London offices and will report to Patrick Walker, director of media partnerships for EMEA.

WeTransfer

WeTransfer, the cloud-based file transfer service, has appointed DJ and music producer Gilles Peterson (pictured) as its creative director to develop the service’s relationship with the global creative community.

Peterson will work across the brand’s marketing and editorial projects and shape its creative strategy alongside chief marketing officer Damian Bradfield.

His role will include curating live events, directing film projects and creating new music partnerships and content.

RKCR/Y&R

RKCR/Y&R has appointed Emily James as its new chief strategy officer as part of a senior management restructure.

James, who was previously head of strategy at RKCR/Y&R, will oversee and lead the strategic vision for the agency in her new position.

Her appointment is part of a shakeup at the agency’s executive management team which will also see Jonathan Burley take up the role of chief creative officer.

Tool of North America

LA-based production company Tool of North America has promoted Oliver Fuselier to managing partner-live action.

In his new role, he will focus on the global expansion of the company, which recently opened up shop in France.

Fuselier joined the agency five years ago and most recently served as managing director, live action. During his time there, he has “cultivated a directorial roster that is renowned for pushing the boundaries of innovation with its live action and integrated productions,” according to the company.

Rippleffect

Rippleffect has confirmed that founder and managing director Ben Hatton has stepped down, announcing former marketing director Kirstie Buchanan as his successor.

The digital agency has said that Hatton, who founded Rippleffect in 1999 and led the sale of the agency to Trinity Mirror in 2008, is leaving on the best possible terms with everyone at both Rippleffect and Trinity Mirror.

Describing his departure as “emotional,” Hatton said: “This agency and all of the people who have made it what it is have given me so many fantastic memories over the years. The team includes some of the best in the industry, and I am certain that Rippleffect is in great hands. It's been a wonderful ride.”

GreyShopper

GreyShopper London has hired VCCP veteran Cressida Eatson-Lloyd (right) as creative director and Mullen Lowe Singapore strategist Jessica Smith (left) to bolster its senior team.

Eatson-Lloyd, who has served as a consultant for various agencies in recent years, will work alongside the shopper outfit’s executive creative director Matt Spink on accounts such as McVities, Lucozade and Gillette.

She was the 14th person to join VCCP and has led shopper marketing strategies for O2, McDonald’s and Hiscox.

Meanwhile, Australian senior planner Smith will work across all the agency’s clients, with a particular focus on the international Procter & Gamble (P&G) brands - Gillette, Braun, Febreze - and Lucozade Ribena Suntory.

Cramer

Timothy Owen is headed to Greater Boston to lead a new activations unit for Cramer.

Owens will work to take Cramer’s growing activations portfolio to the next level by leading a team focused solely on this rapidly-expanding field within marketing.

Prior to his new role as Cramer’s head of activations, Owens was vice-president of production at MKTG.

Havas Worldwide

Havas Worldwide has announced the appointment of Michael Keany in the newly-created role of chief commercial officer, Americas, effective June 27.

In this role, Keany will be responsible for developing and expanding Havas Worldwide’s digital capabilities in North and South America, with a focus on developing strategic partnerships, identifying new lines of business for Havas and its clients, and scaling digital products and services.

Keany is a seasoned digital leader and business builder with over 25 years of experience. He joins the agency from McKinsey & Company, where he served as vice-president and co-founder of McKinsey Academy, a platform as a service (PaaS) start-up focused on digital professional development.
