Rap duo Run the Jewels, composed of Killer Mike and El-P, have hit out at a new movie also called Run the Jewels for stoking brand confusion.

Run the Jewels (the movie) is being produced by Kevin Hart and takes the form of an action comedy about a robbery but it is the apparently brazen theft of the name which has grabbed the attention of most.

Unfortunately for the rapping duo the term Run the Jewels was in colloquial use as a reference to stealing before they appropriated it, giving them very little comeback against the new interlopers as copyright rules likely will not apply.

To run salt into the wounds a ploy synopsis published by THR suggests that the new film will follow a ‘group of failed rappers who attempt to rob an eccentric hip-hop mogul’ suggesting that similarities may not be purely coincidental.

Upon hearing the news El-P inferred he may instruct lawyers to defend their property but didn’t give any details.
