The Football Association (FA) is set to give football fans real-time Euro 2016 updates via Twitter's Direct Message during the England v Wales game tomorrow (16 June).

Twitter Euro updates

Twitter users who opt in to the service will receive notifications through Direct Message, which will appear on a user’s mobile phone lock screen when a goal is scored, as well as at kick-off and full time.

To access the service fans have to follow @England on Twitter, and go into the 'Messages' tab. Then compose a DM to @England with just the word 'play'. Users will then receive a message back confirming their enrollment, and will continue to receive live updates for every England match throughout the tournament.

Today’s announcement comes off the back of a successful pilot of the service with @SouthamptonFC in the Premier League last season.

Mark Gilbert, head of digital communications at the FA, said: “The immediacy of Twitter makes it a really useful tool for England fans to keep up-to-date with key moments in matches when they are otherwise unable to do so.

"We’re confident offering fans goal alerts via direct messages over the platform will go down well with our followers and we’re pleased we can partner with Twitter to do this during Euro 2016.”

The service will be available throughout the group stages, right through to the knockout round. It is also available for five other #EURO2016 competing nations, including Wales, Northern Ireland, France, Spain and Germany.
